The Arts Council of Indianapolis manages central Indiana's most comprehensive, searchable and constantly evolving database of professional artists as a free service to the community. The database includes performing, visual, and literary artists working in all styles and at every level from emerging to well-established. We encourage you to use this resource to connect with the talented artists in the community.
How do I use the Artist Database?
Using the Arts Council Artist Database is simple, whether you know exactly what you are looking for or are searching for ideas. You may search for artists alphabetically, by discipline or keyword. First, select which section of the database you wish to search, Visual Artists or Performing and Literary Artists.
If you don’t have a particular artist in mind, the best option is the keyword search. With the keyword search, you may search as broad as you like, for example "abstract, acoustic, landscape" or as specific as you like, such as "orange, political, or Samba."
What will I find in the Artist Database?
Central Indiana is home to hundreds of professional artists working in a variety of artistic disciplines locally, regionally and nationally. Currently, there are more than 600 artists in the database. You will find painters, sculptors, musicians, poets, composers, photographers and more.
In the database, you will find the artist’s contact information, website link, educational details, gallery and/or agent information, six sample images of their work, and for some, video and audio files.
Remember, the database changes frequently as artists post new images, videos and upcoming shows so visit often.
Need help finding something specific?
If you are looking for something specific and cannot find it on the database, contact the Arts Council’s Artist Services Department for help. The staff can help narrow your search in the database or even send out a Call to Artists or RFP in the Arts Council’s weekly Artist Opportunities E-newsletter. The e-newsletter reaches around 2,100 artists in the region and is a free service for artists and the patrons and businesses seeking to reach them.
The Arts Council is a proud partner and supporter of the
Be Indypendent movement which strives to support local artists and all things unique to greater Indianapolis. For more information about supporting local artists and businesses, visit
